That's the opposite of Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), and it's the more expensive way to build. Bringing a precast manufacturer in during design gives you real cost certainty before a budget is locked in, the chance to simplify a design before it's costed, and an accurate read on lead times — the single biggest cause of avoidable delays when it's left to guesswork.

On a major culvert replacement program for a top-tier contractor on the MRPV panel, the brief was to install several structures through residential streets and school access points, inside a two-week school holiday window — not achievable with a traditional cast-in-place base. Engaged early, we developed, costed and programmed a precast base solution instead, cutting install time enough to get the roads back in service inside the deadline. Engaged after the tender was awarded, on the usual timeline, it wouldn't have been possible at all.
