The Challenge
The South Gippsland Highway upgrade needed an underpass beneath a heritage rail trail, sitting under a high road formation with extensive fill and integrating with a complex retaining wall at each end — large enough for fire vehicles to pass through in an emergency.
Our Approach
We engaged an experienced consulting engineer to design the custom underpass units, then brought in DTP-approved proof engineers to verify the design. Custom moulds were built and manufacture completed to DTP standard. Given the size of the units, we engineered and built specialised transport cradles in-house, allowing safe delivery on their sides for rotation and installation on site — including ferrules pre-cast for internal lighting.
The Outcome
All units successfully manufactured, with complex deliveries coordinated to site to support off-truck installation.
