RCBC Box Culverts are often utilized to create drainage structures under railways. Rail culverts allow flood waters to flow across the track formation without damaging the rail or restricting services.

RCBC Precast Culverts used in rail construction are typically heavier than a standard culvert given the high loads from trains.  The standard rail load specified in the Australian Standard AS5100 bridge code, is 300LA.

Rail culvert construction requires the railway to be closed so programs are limited to strict occupations or track possessions.  Culvert supply must be closely aligned to these occupation dates to ensure the construction is completed on time to reopen the railway.
