Client Pain Point
CYP / John Holland needed to launch one of the Metro Tunnel TBM’s on a crucial date. The project had its fair share of challenges, and the team was under a lot of pressure both commercially and politically to meet this deadline.
Unfortunately, due to uncertainties with design etc, they were not able to issue a PO for the TBM Rolling Blocks until late December, with install due in early February.
Solution.
CYP / John Holland had used Modcast previously for custom blocks, and recognised that Modcast’s good working relationship, proactivity and can-do attitude were required to deliver these units and ‘save the bacon’.
Production.
Modcast was issued with an order from CYP late on Thursday 12 December – a time when most companies were winding down and looking forward to the Christmas break.
We swung into action, marshalled our forces and got started.
Shop Drawings were provided in hours, and the process of constructing multiple custom steel moulds got underway.
Over the holiday period and early January, 12 large steel moulds were constructed, and dozens of the complex triangular reinforcing cages were constructed in our workshops.
Concrete pours commenced on the first day concrete was available in January.
Outcome.
140 perfect units were delivered by 28th of January, right on target.
